How efficient and sustainable is your data center?

As part of our digital world, data centers are at the center of every data exchange. With increasing digitalization of media, business, cloud computing and the arrival of artificial intelligence, the sector is growing rapidly, and with that growth comes an increase in energy and water consumption, which has a significant impact on the environment. Consumers, financiers and regulators are all becoming increasingly aware of these impacts.

The European Union has introduced regulatory requirements for data center efficiency and sustainability, and some data center operators will have to report independently. The EU Taxonomy's technical screening criteria, the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centre Efficiency and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).Whether you are an enterprise operator, cloud service provider or colocation operator or colo customer operating IT equipment these requirements may apply to you. 

A large representation of data center operators within the European Union have taken early action as part of Climate Neutral Data Center Pact’s (CNDCP) Self-Regulatory Initiative, which requires they demonstrate where they are on their efficiency journey with third party verification, ultimately targeting that they are climate neutral by 2030. 

Bureau Veritas helped to define the CNDCP SRI requirements with these data center operators with the development of an Audit Framework. The framework aligns with the relevant EU regulations and standards and therefore can be used to verify claims of compliance.
